The Financial Aid Office is planning a week of information sessions from January 30 to February 3 to promote Financial Aid Awareness among both grads and undergrads. Check out their announcement for more detail.

RefWorks-COS a division of ProQuest has put together a database of research funding opportunities, both private and public, for all disciplines. UC Davis library account holders can access the database at http://fundingopps.cos.com/. Happy hunting.

A brief survey was e-mailed to you on December 6th from sdps.ucdavis.edu titled "UC Davis Graduate and Professional Student Survey" regarding child care and breastfeeding support programs.

As graduate and professional students, you are invited to share your experiences and perspectives on these programs and services. This survey is part of a stakeholder review by a Vice Chancellor-appointed task force. It is critical for student voices to be included in the evaluation and recommendations made to the Chancellor and Provost about the continuation of the programs beyond June 2012.

Since the survey link will not work if forwarded or shared, please use your original e-mail to fill out the 10-minute survey.
A second e-mail will also be sent on Monday, December 12th.

Check out this site for details about this year's student health insurance plan. It is pretty similar to last year, including the $400,000 lifetime max, so be sure not to get too sick!

The mission of The Pantry is to aid UC Davis students in their pursuit of a higher education by ensuring that no student ever has to miss a meal or go without basic necessities due to financial reasons. Their goals are to provide non-perishable, high protein food for UC Davis students struggling to pay for meals and to provide UC Davis students with basic necessities such as toiletries, soap, toothbrushes, etc. in order to live a dignified life while working to obtain a UC Davis degree. It is open to both undergraduate and graduate students.

The GSA provides Grievance Assistance to graduate students on campus. The GSA's Vice Chair is happy to help grads navigate the thorny interpersonal issues that sometimes arise during graduate study as well as the seemingly daunting university bureaucracy. The Linguistics Graduate Group focuses both on the systematic study of human language—how it's constructed, how it's understood, how it functions in society, how it's represented in the mind and brain—and the practical art of teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL). Linguistics as a discipline has existed for thousands of years, but in its modern incarnation it is an interdisciplinary field, with influences from (and on) such diverse traditions as psychology, computer science, anthropology, sociology, neuroscience, foreign language study, philosophy, pedagogy, and even anatomy. The Linguistics Graduate Group reflects this diversity well, with professors in the Department of Linguistics as well as several other academic departments. The Graduate Group also serves the campus by administering the ESL program for both graduates and undergraduates, and will be hosting a regional TESOL conference in November.
