Thank you to all the graduate students who submitted nominations and helped with the judging

Four graduate students need to serve on the GSA Award Committee

May 18th 4:30-6:00 GSA office (South Silo)

Each year the Graduate Student Association recognizes those who work diligently to advance the status of graduate students at UC Davis. Candidates will be evaluated by a committee chaired by the GSA Vice Chair and made up of five GSA representatives from across the disciplines. Up to two recipients will be selected by the committee and presented to the GSA General Assembly for approval. Recipients will be presented with a plaque recognizing their hard work and a gift from the Association.

Selection Criteria. The committee will evaluate nominations based on how the nominee:
1) Promotes and supports both graduate students’ academic achievement and personal well-being;
2) Provides support that reaches a broad audience and has a significant impact on individual students; and
3) Contributes in ways that are above and beyond the scope and duties of the nominee’s position.

Copies of the nomination materials will be available at the GSA office for you to pick up and read at your convenience. May 18th 4:30-6:00 we will meet to discuss and determine the 2010 winner.

GSA Award for Excellence in Service to Graduate Students committee!!!

I"m looking for five students to serve on this committee. This award is presented each year to members of the staff, faculty, or administration who have demonstrated outstanding commitment and resolve in pursuing graduate student interests. We will meet once to review applications (there will be snacks!).

Graduate student needed to serve on IET Gmail advisory group

Currently, all students receive a UC Davis Gmail account as their default email service. Now Information and Educational Technology (IET) is conducting a pilot project to determine whether or not Gmail should be offered as a campus email service for faculty and staff. They would like a graduate student to join the advisory group that is currently being formed.

Please see the website for information about the project: [WWW]http://gmailpilot.ucdavis.edu/

Contact me (kbhurley@ucdavis.edu) if you are interested in participating!

Save the Breastfeeding Support Program!

GSA and ASUCD have unanimously voted to write formal letters expressing their support of continuing the UCD Breastfeeding Support Program. The Status of Women at Davis Administrative Advisory Committee (SWADAAC) has also made this vital resource for women on campus the committee's top priority for this year. If you share this concern, please sign the Women's Resources & Research Center's e-petition,
Keep the Breastfeeding Support Program, which will be delivered to Karen Hull, Associate Vice Chancellor of Human Resources and let your voice be heard!

Currently, WorkLife is exploring partnerships with faculty, as well as seeking funding both on and off-campus to continue this program beyond June 2010. If you have creative ideas about funding sources and/or you or
your organization would like to get more involved in advocating or raising funds for this resource, please contact Joy Evans at joyevans@ucdavis.edu,
or drop by the Women's Center.

Apply to Serve on the Campus Judicial Board

The UC Davis Campus Judicial Board is now in the process of recruiting new student members for the 2010-2011 school year. This is a volunteer position, and it is open to graduate students. The main function of the CJB is to conduct outreach to the campus community about the importance of academic honesty and integrity at UC Davis. Students on CJB also serve as panel members for Formal Hearings in contested cases of academic and social misconduct, and serve a variety of other functions in our campus disciplinary system.

Campus Judicial Board meetings are held on Tuesday evenings from 5:00-6:00 pm, and applicants MUST be able to regularly attend these weekly meetings unless they have an irremediable class conflict. In addition, each member is expected to put in three hours of "office hours" a week. The total time commitment is roughly 20 hours per month.

Applications are now available in the Office of Student Judicial Affairs, 3200 Dutton Hall, (third floor). They are due no later than Tuesday, March 16th at 4:00 pm. All candidates must submit their applications in-person, as you will sign up for a group interview at that time. If you would like more information about the Campus Judicial Board, three student-run informational meetings have been scheduled:

If you are unable to attend any of these meetings but would still like more information, please contact Amanda Gau at: ahgau@ucdavis.edu.

Join a UC Davis Administrative Advisory Committee for the 2010-2011 academic year!

The committees address topics such as arts, athletics, child care, student services and research. Applications are due by March 8. As a member of an administrative advisory committee, your feedback is important to the committee's recommendations to the administration. You can also help representatives from other constituencies understand your interests and concerns and, in turn, learn more about their views of campus issues.

An application form, a list of the committees with brief descriptions of their activities, and other information are available on the web at [WWW]http://aac.ucdavis.edu.

Chancellor’s Graduate and Professional Student Advisory Board

As a member of the Chancellor’s Graduate and Professional Student Advisory Board, I am seeking your input regarding issues, concerns, comments, or suggestions you would like us to share with the Chancellor, particularly as they pertain to graduate and professional students. Each board member has ideas and suggestions of her/his own, including our perceptions of general student views, but we would like to be able to bring your concerns to the table as you describe them. Your responses will be kept confidential, but they do help us to judge common sentiment. Please take a few moments to email me: Your top 3 concerns as a graduate or professional student at UC Davis & any comments, suggestions, creative solutions, or other ideas you would like us to share with the Chancellor. Thanks!
