2008-11-02 21:19:20 how is the funding situation in UCDAVIS for a MS with thesis option in the EE dept. —asaidhiraj
2008-11-05 13:55:39 Dear asaidhiraj; I'd suggest also posting your question on the graduate studies and GSA facebooks; you may be able to reach more students there who access their facebooks on a regular basis. —Marrah
2008-11-12 09:12:35 Another good way to get info about funding situations or student life in general in individual departments/grad groups is to contact the coordinator for the group and ask to be put in contact with some current grad students. The coordinator's info can usually be found on the group's website. —MicheleTobias
2009-04-07 12:48:14 Hey! I am an international student from India. I have been admitted to the graduate program in Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering for Fall 2009. I have also received admits from the University of Colorado at Boulder, Arizona State University and North Carolina State University, among others. I have a few questions:
In comparison with the above mentioned schools,
1. What is your opinion on the department, faculty etc.?
2. What are the job opportunities in the field on completion of the MS program?
3. What are the chances of receiving some sort of funding, as in assistantships, scholarships etc.?
4. What would be the typical monthly cost of living for a grad student at Davis?
5. What is the best way to find decent housing which is also not too expensive and how do I find roommates? —Shriram
2009-04-07 16:50:11 Hi Shriram! The first three questions would be best answered by students in your graduate group, but I can help with the last two. The monthly RA or TA stipend of ~$1400-1800 (before taxes) in my department is usually sufficient to sustain a modest standard of living in Davis. Our own wiki has the start of some pages to help you find housing and roommates. The
Davis Wiki also is a great resource to find
rental housing and
roommates. —FrancisHsu
