Personal Statement for Public Comment at the Regent's meeting on November 28, 2011

"The 1960 California Master Plan was a commitment by and to the state of California to provide California high school graduates with a tuition free education. That commitment has been slowly undermined. As the Regents, you are responsible for safeguarding the institution of public education. The state has let us down and You have let us down. We implore you to engage students to work with you to reaffirm these principles. The student movement is gaining momentum, we have the opportunity to create change. One way to do this is to allow student Regents to act with a voting voice. Furthermore, students are increasingly concerned about issues regarding transparency, especially with respect to budgetary decisions, expenditures, income and the selection of Regents. We ask you to seek student input on such issues. Increasing tuition is endangering the ability of California students to attend California universities. We must work together to find other solutions rather than increasing tuition."
