A "General Meeting" is a special meeting of the general GSA membership wherein previous decisions made by the GSA Assembly or the Executive Council can be overruled, and wherein decisions can be made which cannot be overruled by the GSA Assembly or the Executive Council.

As stated in the GSA Constitution:

"Article V Meetings—Section C General Meeting

1. A General Meeting may be called by petition of 10% of the general membership. Upon receipt of the petition, the Association Chair must call a general meeting.
2. The Association Chair shall preside at general meetings.
3. A General Meeting must be announced at least 14 days in advance.
4. A quorum is 10% or greater of the general membership.
5. Decisions at a general meeting shall have precedence over the Assembly and Executive Council.
6. Executive Council members have voting privileges at general meetings, except the Chair, who shall only cast a vote to break a tie."

Note: Technically, a "General Meeting" is not called a "General Assembly," though the two terms are similar. Both instances of the term "General Assembly" in the GSA Bylaws refer to the regular GSA Assembly (which is sometimes called the "GA"). Also, during the 2009-2010 academic year, a group of students on campus involved with protests over the fee hikes created a group called the "General Assembly," which is formally a separate group from GSA, coincidentally using the same name that appears twice in the GSA bylaws.
