Class description:
PRENATAL YOGA (pregnant women only)
A gentle class for moms-to-be in a calm, peaceful environment. Yoga has been shown to strengthen the uterus and pelvic muscles, improve circulation, and improve spinal flexibility to make for an easier labor and delivery and post-partum recovery. Yoga can also help alleviate many of the discomforts of pregnancy such as nausea, constipation, swelling, and back pain. There is a time for sharing in every class. All stages of pregnancy welcome. No prior yoga experience is necessary. Single class only. No multiple class passes.

b) [WWW]Kaya Yoga began advertising Prenatal Yoga classes beginning in October 2008. See schedule of classes or call them for more details and to see if they still offer this type of yoga.

The following classes are not specified as Prenatal so check with instructors beforehand if you are currently pregnant so see if these classes are safe for you.

h) [WWW]Bikram Yoga offers yoga that is suitable for all ages and abilities. However, since this is not termed “prenatal” it’s probably best to check beforehand to be sure if this is safe for whatever stage you are at in your pregnancy. Their classes are also done in a heated room so take that into consideration as well, exercise caution.

Description: Prenatal Yoga
Feel better, look better, and have an easier birthing experience. Our Prenatal Yoga classes help attune the body in preparation for the natural process of childbirth, providing a time and space to quiet the mind and connect with your body and growing baby. We’ll focus on postures, breathing, and meditation techniques from the Hatha Yoga tradition to help ease pregnancy, delivery, and the after effects of birth in a safe, supportive environment. Classes help reduce stress as well as the discomforts of pregnancy, while creating flexibility, focus, strength, and endurance through a gentle to moderate practice that is designed especially for the pregnant woman's needs. This practice is beneficial for every stage of pregnancy and does NOT require prior yoga experience. (Pre-registration is NOT required.) Postnatal students are also welcome. This class is a great way to connect with other mother-to-be in our community! *** Please be sure to check with your doctor or midwife to make sure that yoga is a safe practice for you and your baby.

Description: Prenatal
Women who are pregnant need special yoga poses to prepare their bodies for pregnancy and birth. These yoga classes will improve strength and flexibility and will allow moms to become more in tune with their bodies' needs during this special time. Postures focus on opening the pelvic parameters, strengthening the legs and learning breathing exercises to relax and become more in tune with the body and the breath. Open to all levels.

Descriptions: Women Escaping a Violent Environment, Inc, (WEAVE), is both a shelter for battered women and a counseling center. Crisis counseling appointments are available within 24 hours, while regular counseling has a 1-4 week waiting list and a sliding fee scale. There is space available at the shelter and usually no waiting list. The shelter is $2 per day per family but no one is turned away due to lack of money. Contact the community educator for a brochure. Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Counseling is available 9-5 Monday through Friday and their physical address is 1900 K Street, Sacramento. We provide 24 hour peer counseling services through our crisis line. Also available are Domestic violence drop-in support groups which are free. The women's drop-in groups are held Tuesdays 6-7:30 and Fridays 12:00-1:30 PM and are free. The co-ed anger management/batterers drop-ins are held Wednesdays 6:30-8:00 PM and Saturdays 10:30-12:00 PM. The fee is $5.00. Late comers will not be admitted. Human Corps has contacted this program and volunteers can work on the crisis line, with the youth program at the safehouse or in non-direct service areas. The direct service positions require individuals to complete the 64-hour training, and make a commitment of six months, at four hours per week. All non-direct service positions are negotiable.

Descriptions: The Domestic Violence Intervention Center provides support for victims of domestic violence. Volunteers are required to participate in 40 hours of training which is held twice a year. Upon completion of taining, volunteers will receive a certificate as an advocate. Advocates can volunteer in a variety of ways; clerical work and phone operator at the office, crisis line phone operator after hours, out reach and tabling at events, producer of grant proposals, mediator of women's support groups, as well as other opportunities to help. Volunteers are expected to maintain confidentiality, as it is a domestic violence center. Long term commitments are encouraged.
