The GSA is working on getting more rights for students renting in the City of Davis. The GSA Assembly passed a resolution (
Renters Rights Resolution.doc) supporting the ability to show political signs in rental properties, and also the ability to get interest back on rental property deposits. These issues have been brought to the City-UCD Liaison Commission, which has recommended that the City Council pass an ordinance on political signs.
Housing in Davis has always been tricky and expensive, and with options concerning new housing construction very limited, we don't anticipate any major changes.
Graduate students have several avenues to pursue when they are looking for housing.
On-Campus
Student Housing coordinates on campus housing, This includes Family housing such as
Solano and
Orchard Parks. Don't hesitate to get on the waiting lists. Alternatives include privately owned
Russell Park.
Off-Campus
Check out
Student Housing for information on apartments available off-campus. Davis Wiki has listings on all of the
apartment complexes — just remember that the reviews are from self-selected reviewers!
The
Community Housing Listing has listings of many people seeking roommates and flatmates.
Remember, try checking with your department to see if your colleagues are looking for roommates. Also, check out the GSA room and rental ads.
West Village Housing Project
UC Davis is embarking on a new construction area that will include housing options for graduate students. See the
West Village website for more information on the project.
