This piece features a photography montage of the first time this single teenage mother sees her daughter Vera's face. The first image in the set is of Nicole at eight months in her pregnancy. The second image in the set is in the waiting room for her 4D ultrasound, accompanied by her 17 year old brother. Her daughter has had an intrauterine growth restriction since month six of Nicole's pregnancy requiring additional high-tech and weekly ultrasound imaging. The third photo in the set is the ultrasound procedure. The final image in the set is an image of her daughter's face greeting her with "See you soon!" She plans to do what it takes to support and nurture her daughter, Vera. Nicole is now 20 years old. She became pregnant with her second child at age 19. She lost her first at age 17 to a miscarriage. She is a soon to be single mother. She has a 10th grade education. She is receiving prenatal care through a state-assisted medicaid program. She is determined to get her GED and find a viable career after attending beauty school. She had to grow up fast but proves that she can survive the stresses and trials of life alone. She was bold enough to not run away from her responsibilities and brave enough to decide to raise a child alone despite her circumstances. Through her determination and independence she reflected on her pregnancy. She decided having a child was not the end of a good life but a door to a better one.
