Health Insurance and Cowell Health Center

Most graduate students are automatically enrolled in the Student Health Insurance Program (SHIP). Primary care is handled through the Cowell Student Health Center. You may also waive SHIP coverage if you have a comparable insurance plan.  The waiver deadline for Fall 2005 is September 21, 2006.

Dependents of UCD students are no longer eligible for insurance through SHIP. There are some resources available here.  However, uninsured dependents can still receive health care directly from the Cowell Health Center for a fee.

Dental Insurance

SHIP includes a Dental spending plan, where graduate students receive up to a certain amount for dental care with Delta Dental. For 2005-2006, that amount is $500.

Optometry Benefits

The Student Health Insurance Plan does not cover vision services.

However, the Meredith W. Morgan University Eye Center at the UC Berkeley School of Optometry offers SHIP members a $21 discount on comprehensive eye exams and a $15 discount on prescriptions filled at the Eye Center's optical dispensary. The Center has clinics conveniently located in Minor Hall and the Tang Center.

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS)

CAPS provides an resource for mental and emotional health at UC Davis. Counselors are on hand any time you need help; peer counciling and group sessions are also available.  CAPS is located on the second floor of North Hall.
