For Master’s & Ph.D. Students, and Postdoctoral Scholars

Only one more week to register!  http://icc.ucdavis.edu/mpp/assessment.htm Whether you are pursuing a career in academia or beyond, this 2-part workshop series will help you learn about your working style, occupational interests, skills and values. Completing both workshops will assist you in knowing more about yourself, how you make decisions, process information and what kinds of working environments you thrive in, all of which can be helpful information to learn when defining career goals.

Eligibility: Open to UC Davis master’s and Ph.D. students, and postdoctoral scholars.Registration is required to attend and closes one week before each workshop.

Part I:  Strong Interest Inventory Assessment & SkillScan Card Sort
Thursday, May 5, 4:10 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Upon registration, you will receive an email with the room location and instructions on how to complete the Strong Interest Inventory online. Please complete the assessment one week in advance of the workshop to ensure your results are printed and available for the workshop.

Part II:  Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Assessment & Values Assessment
Thursday, May 12, 2016, 4:10 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

This panel discussion and workshop will focus on tips and suggestions for finding and successfully applying to positions in the health fields. Panelists will share their experiences working with the California Department of Public Health, UC Davis Medical Center and with federal government agencies. Come network and learn how to navigate the new CA State application process, which recently changed. Sponsored by the UC Davis Internship and Career Center, and Master of Public Health Alumni Organization

4. Preparing a Curriculum Vitae

Are you applying for a faculty position or preparing materials for a postdoc, senior research position, or research grant? Do you want help writing your curriculum vitae (CV) for graduate school? This workshop provides the format, content, and purpose of the CV as well as how to effectively modify your document depending on the type of position you are applying for. We will also review tips on how to tailor your CV so that it emphasizes different work experiences as well as demonstrates “fit” for different institutions (i.e., research one, community college, liberal arts).

The Naturejobs Career Expo 2016, hosted for the first time in San Francisco, offers talented researchers an excellent opportunity to meet a diverse selection of national and international employers from academic institutions and scientific industries, such as pharmaceutical organizations, digital technology companies, science publishing and more. This one-day event will include career panel discussion, workshops, networking with employers, and an opportunity to have your resume professionally reviewed.
