Call for Fellows
PAGE’s 2017-2018 Call for Fellows is inspired by Imagining America’s conference provocation to consider how community engagement, public scholarship, and/or creative art practice challenge conventional relationships that exist among knowledge, institutions, communities, and public life. All applicants will be asked to respond to a brief 500-700 word essay (prompts below), answer three short answer and three logistical questions, and submit a bio, CV, and photo.
People of color, international students, non-US citizens, persons with a disability, veterans, queer-identified, genderqueer and/or trans persons, first generation students, and/or people from working-class backgrounds are especially encouraged to apply. Note: Only students who are affiliated with Imagining America member institutions are eligible for this award.
***The submission deadline is Thursday, June 1, 2017***
Applicants will be notified by June 30th. Participation in the program begins with an informal webinar in August. Applicants must be available to attend the PAGE Summit on October 11 and the IA Conference on October 12-14 in Davis, California.
PAGE (Publicly Active Graduate Education) is Imagining America’s network for publicly engaged graduate students in humanities, arts, and design. PAGE enhances the theoretical and practical frameworks for public engagement; fosters a national, interdisciplinary community of peers and veteran scholars; and creates opportunities for collaborative knowledge production. The PAGE consortium, made up of alumni and allies of the program, promotes opportunities for mentorship and peer support from IA’s network.
Imagining America (IA) invites graduate students with a demonstrated interest in public scholarship and/or artistic practice to apply for a 2017-2018 PAGE Fellowship. Awardees receive a $400 honorarium to attend a Fellows Summit on October 11 and the 2017 Imagining America national conference, from October 12-14 in Davis, California. Fellows can apply for additional modest travel support.
Fellows also commit to participating in a yearlong working group to promote collaborative art-making, teaching, writing, and research projects. PAGE alumni and Fellows will work together to organize monthly conference calls around themes and questions relevant to the needs of publicly engaged graduate students. In doing so, PAGE looks to foster a cohort of Fellows interested in pursuing collective and innovative scholarly and community engaged practices. Fellows are asked to be active participants in the Imagining America network through writing for the IA blog and related journals and presenting at regional meetings, campus workshops, or other related professional convenings.
Students at all stages of their graduate programs may apply to be PAGE Fellows. Applicants must be graduate students during the entire 2017-2018 academic year, but do not have to be planning a career within higher education. This award is open to all graduate students within the Imagining America network.
