You do NOT need to be a representative to put yourself forward for these positions.

2. SAGE DACA Day of Action

THIS WEDNESDAY September 13, the Senate Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing regarding Deferred Action for Childhood arrivals (DACA) following the Trump Administration’s recent announcement that they are ending the program. As you may know, DACA is a program that allows undocumented individuals who were brought to this country as children to work in the United States and currently benefits roughly 800,000 individuals. Congress has six months to pass a solution. In July, Senators Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Lindsey Graham (R-SC) reintroduced the DREAM Act, which provides a smart and comprehensive legislative fix that would afford the undocumented community much of the same protections offered by DACA. This is a strong bill, and Congress must act quickly to protect and assist those that will be left without security currently afforded to them by DACA.
Now is the time to put pressure on our Senators and House Representatives to pass a legislative solution to this issue. Student Advocates for Graduate Education is calling for a Day of Action on Wednesday, September 13 in which we ask you to do your part to #defendDACA
Here’s what you can do:
1. CALL YOUR REPRESENTATIVES! We have created a call script you can use which includes info on how to reach the Senators/ Representatives from your state.
2. If you don’t have time to make a call, Email your reps by finding their feedback forms here.
3. Tweet at your elected officials using the hashtags #defendDACA, #DREAMact, or #DreamActNow
For more information regarding SAGE, take a look at the Coalition’s website and follow us on Facebook for updates on DACA and other graduate student issues.
Please join us this Wednesday and help support the rights of DREAMers who are pursuing higher education!
