1. Elections and GSA General Assembly Endorsements

In person elections for California’s primary are tomorrow! If you vote in-person, you can find your polling place here

2. UAW Petition: Demand UC Bargain with Us Over Remedies to Sexual Harassment

Student workers have made it clear that sexual violence and sexual harassment is a huge problem at the UC, and the UC Administration is not solving the problem. Our union is proposing new contract language that would address many of the central issues, establishing additional channels for justice and accountability and ensuring survivor agency.

Sign and share this petition to show the UC Administration that we’re strong and united in these demands, and that we expect to see progress on this issue before our contract expires on June 30. 3. Living and Working Opportunity

We are looking for an individual (male or female) to live with and provide minor support to three adult males with mild intellectual disabilities. The three males are 26, 30 and 35 years old and are moving together to a 4 bedroom, 3.5 bath townhouse in The Cannery in Davis on June 1, 2018. The three friends are independent, employed, very social individuals who have other support staff available, as needed.  The Cannery has a number of extras that are free to all tenants – including a pool, outdoor exercise area and community rooms. There is plenty of parking and it is close to shopping and a bus line.

This position requires paying a small amount of rent per month ($495, which includes utilities, cable, internet, etc.) for the support person’s own room and own half bathroom (sharing the shower in one of the other bathrooms) while earning an hourly wage (from a support agency that works with the three young men) whenever evening and morning support is provided.  The number of hours of paid support time for the live-in staff is flexible and can be as much or as little at the support staff person desires. At a minimum, it would cover the evenings and mornings when present in the townhouse.

The type of support we are looking for from the live-in support staff is minimal. It includes being available for support during the evenings (with flexibility for times away) to promote following schedules; overseeing household rules (such as the cleaning schedule for common spaces); overseeing meal preparation as needed; and facilitating communication between the roommates, as needed. Additional hours are available, if desired, for supporting one or two of the roommates.

Given the location of the townhouse and its proximity to other units as well as the requirements of the owner, we are looking for someone who is relatively quiet, a non-smoker, and has no pets. You would have an opportunity to meet the three roommates before we both make a decision. The agency who would hire you for the hours of support time (Creative Living Options), will require a background check.

4. California Department of Public Health Recruitment Fair

The California Department of Public Health will be holding an open recruitment fair on Friday, June 22nd from 11:00am to 7:00pm at 1500 Capitol Avenue. See flyer attached.

 

5. Transportation Tomorrow Survey

7. Food Access Resources

Several resources exist for students who are having difficulty affording healthy food.

You may be eligible for CalFresh, which can give up to $190/month to help with groceries.

Food is also available for students at the Pantry in lower Freeborn or through Fruit & Veggie Up – now located at the MU!

8. GSA Travel Award

The application for Fall 2018 Travel Award starts May 15th, 2018.

Deadline is July 15th, 2018. The maximum amount is $500.

The award is used for travel between July 1st – December 31st 2018.
