Bio

Ben Ruilin Fong is a PhD Candidate in Comparative Literature [Chinese, English] with a DE
in Critical Theory at UC Davis. He received his BA in East Asian Studies and English from
Brandeis and his MSt in English Literature (1550-1700) from Oxford. His research interests
broadly focus on Chinese-language film, English-language film, and media studies. His
dissertation focuses upon Chinese picture cultures covering a variety of mediums
including illustrated fiction, lianhuanhua, and film. His transnational research encourages an
expansive redefinition and reconsideration of how pictures are adapted, appropriated,
and circulated within networks of book publishers, film producers, and audiences.

He is excited to listen to and advocate for Davis graduate students. Feel free to contact him at gsapresident@ucdavis.edu
